THE FROG

A Writing From School:

The Frog
DISSECTION

I always thought that I would never be able to dissect a frog. But here I am ready to do just that. Finally. It was the day, the day.The day I’ve been waiting for since second grade. It was time to dissect frogs. I was exited to dissect all the organs. I wondered if I would get sick. Let me tel you about how it went.
Kerplunk that was the sound of of the scissors that were put on my desk by Mrs.Werries. Those are what you cut the frog open with. Here come the tweezers. Click Click. Finally the little metal pan came, it had black stuff in the bottom. I thought to my self, ’’what is the black stuff in the bottom’?’ My question was soon answered when Mrs.Werries asked us to come to the back table. Some of the kids ran to the back table as fast as cheetahs. Some of the kid’s weren't as sure about it, like me. It was about that time I was feeling sick. When Mr.Larsen opened the bucket the stench was horrible like a swamp. Mr. Larsen took out the things that my mom uses to pickup the cooked chicken. But it did not smell like chiken. Once the demonstration started I couldn’t bear to watch it. I stepped back. At that time I can’t remember what happened but I don’t think I liked it much because I went into the hall. I told myself “you can do it Kelsie.” It ended up I didn’t return to my classroom. All the sudden thought popped in to my head "what will my partner do?” Well I didnt' know until I finally returned to my classroom.
When I returned I first saw that the dissection was about done. Then I saw that the organs were laid out on a piece of paper. Here is what the organs looked like. The lungs looked like over sized raisins. I can’t remember what the heart looked like. The brain reminded me of a little white rock . Last but not least the biggest organ of all was the liver. It looked like three different red parts connected to each other. I was amazed how big the liver was. Mrs.Werries told me to come see Keegen’s frog. When I got over to his desk I noticed that his frog had eggs. When I first saw the eggs it looked like my black and white note book. Right then I felt much better. I thought to myself ‘’this is cool.‘’
All in all the dissection went over well, except some parts. That is how the dissection went for me.

Yuck! I know I dissected several different animals, but I don't remember much about them. I must have blocked it from my memory! Good job on being such a trooper and then actually enjoying it in the end. You're awesome!

It wasn't until college that I was able to dissect a frog! So cool!

I can't believe you had to dissect a frog so soon. I didn't do it till eighth grade. I made my partner do it because I wasn't going to touch the thing. It didn't end up looking kind of cool in the end though. Good for you for going back in your classroom.

Kelsie- I enjoyed your account of dissecting a frog. I vaguely remember doing that in high school. The Part I remember most about it was the smell of formaldahyde (sp).

I like your parakeet! Maybe I'll try to carve one, if I ever finish a hawk I'm doing.
